With the crazy school year in full swing, I had little to no time to think about the amazing experience I will have this summer in Colombia with nine other U.S. teachers traveling, learning, and teaching. But just last week, I got an email from TGC reminding us to get our shots for travel and that our travel, which had seemed so far away, is now very close.
I learned I had to get a number of shots (typhoid, tetanus, etc.) for Colombia and went down to get them on the same day thinking it would be a breeze. I had a great nurse, Nurse Nancy, who took me through all the possible scenarios and we decided on four shots, two in each arm. I thought I was handling it bravely until she said "Dana, you look like you are going to faint" and she whisked me into a reclining chair and stuck a lollipop in my mouth. As funny as it sounds, it finally made the experience of sharing what I know about global education and learning from being in Colombia and a Colombian classroom real. I am finally getting my curricula and general travel plans ready to go. Colombia here we come!
