Our first day in Colombia was filled with meeting our in-country consultants, two charming Brits who are experts on Colombian education. We had many questions answered and learned generally about history, culture and the private/public divide in education. A piece that stood out for me was that so many people want to attend school they have to have two sessions a day- the first one starting at 6 am and letting out at 12 and then a second session in afternoon with all new students and teachers. It seems as though general resources such as school buildings are stretched thin. We visit a public school today and I am interested to see the sorts of resources available in classes.
We had a lovely tourist opportunity today taking a funicular to Monserrate and had a beautiful view of Bogota. It was 10,000 feet up so not for the faint of heart but lovely!
